Relaunching UKOS PLC's Corporate Web Site
UKOS PLC are one of the fastest growing office stationery and business supplies companies in the UK.
Their achievements since formation in 2000 have included inclusions as a Sunday Times Fast Track 100 company and recognition as a Lloyds Bank and Real Business Magazine Hot 100 business.
UKOS approached Neuchi in late 2006 to discuss the possibility of redeveloping their corporate web site.
At that time their corporate web site, as the screen shot to the right illustrates, did not accurately reflect the achievements of the company or effectively communicate with the diverse range of companies and organisations that were UKOS clients.
In order to determine what information a redeveloped web site should contain and how their clients wished to communicate online with UKOS, Neuchi visited a number of key UKOS clients in order to develop a project scoping document.
Once this had been discussed with the commissioning team at UKOS, a project brief was developed and agreed upon.
At this point Neuchi engaged the services of Gr0w Collective to formulate the information architecture of the web site and to develop a number of design drafts.
These design drafts were subject to a number of revisions before Gr0w Collective could begin development work on the agreed template designs.
Facilitating Usability & Accessibility
Two key focuses of the project were usability and accessibility.
Usability features included a consistent navigation scheme used throughout the site coupled with contextual links and imagery which ensures that users know where they are in the site at any given moment.
The newly developed web site was audited for conformance to the WCAG 1.0 priority two checkpoints to ensure that is was accessible to as many people as possible, irrespective of the platform or system used to view the site.
A key feature is that the site interface is fully elastic, including the images. As a consequence users can increase or decrease the font size used on the web site without a break down in it's structure.
The newly developed web site was launched in April 2007 and has been meet with positive reviews from both UKOS staff and customers alike.
Recognition has also come from leading design site CSS Mania, which listed the new UKOS web site in it's May selection of sites to review.
